Anja Schuhmann
Anja was born in Berlin. After high school she studied Musical Theatre and Dance at London Studio Centre / Middlesex University. In 1997 she moved to Chicago to study modern dance at Columbia College Chicago. After graduating with a BA in modern dance, she received her Pilates certification in 2000 at Body Balance, a renowned Chicago Pilates Studio. Since then she has taught Pilates in Pilates studios, fitness clubs and physical therapy practices, first in Chicago and later in Osaka.
In 2007 she returned to her hometown, Berlin, and opened Studio A Pilates.

Anja has long had a special interest in the anatomy of the musculoskeletal system and has attended numerous courses on this subject:
- Anatomy for body therapists with Dr. Anita Ginter, CMA
- Workshops of the Franklin method, a synthesis of imagination, movement and experiential anatomy, with Eric Franklin and Morten Dithmer
- Master Workshops with Madeline Black, an internationally known leader in the Pilates field
She also was a translator for Anatomy in Clay at the Pilates on Tour conference in Wiesbaden.

Since 2007 Anja has been a member of the German Pilates Association (Deutscher Pilates Verband) and she holds the internationally recognised PMA (Pilates Method Alliance) certificate.

From 2005 to 2009 she attended the EUROLAB course for Laban Bartenieff movement studies, a method of observing, documenting, analyzing and creating movement. She received the certificate Certified Laban Movement Analyst (EUROLAB) in 2009.

In March 2011 Anja started studying to become a Holistic Health Practitioner at the „Akademie zur Berufsausbildung für Heilpraktiker“ (Academy for Professional Training for Holistic Health Practitioners).
